Logos are extremely important in marketing. They create a visual identity, creating a first impression that attracts new clients. It is a fact that all the most successful brands have strong logos that make the brand memorable.
In today's media studies class, I visited Supernosso supermarket and looked at different brand logos. This Inside the Media post will analyze two different logos from two famous brands: Starbucks and Ben and Jerry's
STARBUCKS
Starbucks is the most famous coffee shop in the world. Its logo contains a mermaid because "sirens lured sailors with their beautiful voices to a shipwreck off the coast." the same way Starbucks coffee attracts coffee lovers.
There are two colors in the logo; green and white.
According to the color emotion guide, green sells out an idea of peace and health. In my opinion, the use of these colors is a great marketing strategy, but they do not represent the colors as a whole. The peaceful idea is accurate, as Starbucks coffee shops normally are a peaceful environment; However, although Starbucks might have healthy options for drinks, most of the drinks they sell are extremely sweet and have high quality. Therefore, caffeine may cause addiction, which is not healthy at all. The white represents balance and calm. It sells the same idea as the green representing peace.
In my opinion, the mermaid in the Starbucks logo was extremely effective. It became one of the most famous logos in the world, attracting lots of clients who are curious about the taste of the famous Starbucks drinks. This logo also became a big thing during the "Tumblr" era (around 2014/16) and apart from being a brand logo it became a famous pattern used in clothing, phone cases, etc.
BEN AND JERRY'S
Ben and Jerry's is an ice cream brand known for its variety of flavors and for its great taste. The Logo is simple but effective. The name is written in a "Cnunky" font creating a fun aspect that matches perfectly with the products they sell.
There are three main colors on the logo: Orange, White, and Brown.
These colors are seen on some of the bestselling ice cream flavors, chocolate, Vanilla, and Caramel.
The whole visual identity seen in Ben and Jerry's products is incredibly effective. The drawings in their packages of the sky, the little cows, and the way each flavor has its own little drawings attract customers, mainly kids. Also, it sells out the idea that Ben and Jerry's ice creams are made out of natural products.
